According to statistics released by
Japan's Ministry of Finance,
Japan's ferrous
scrap exports totaled 442,033 metric tons in October this year, falling by 4.5 percent month on month and down 11.4 percent compared to October 2010.
In October,
Japan's ferrous
scrap exports to South Korea increased by 9.6 percent month on month to 245,974 metric tons, while a fall of 20 percent was registered compared to October 2010.
China imported 187,440 metric tons from
Japan in October this year, down 18 percent month on month and up 8.85 percent year on year.
Meanwhile, in the January-October period of 2011
Japan's
scrap exports amounted to 4.2 million metric tons, declining by 22 percent year on year, influenced by the earthquake and tsunami which hit
Japan on March 11.
In the first 10 months of the year, Japanese
scrap exports to
China totaled 1.9 million metric tons, while exports to South Korea amounted to 2.23 million metric tons, decreasing by 13.7 percent and down 21.65 percent respectively, both compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
