Japan’s scrap exports fall 5.75 percent in Sept from Aug

According to statistics released by Japan's Ministry of Finance, Japan's ferrous scrap exports totaled 462,646 metric tons in September this year, falling by 5.75 percent month on month and up 0.35 percent compared to September 2010.
 
In September, Japan's ferrous scrap exports to China decreased by two percent month on month to 228,719 metric tons, while a rise of 1.4 percent was registered compared to September 2010. South Korea imported 224,455 metric tons from Japan in September this year, down 9.8 percent month on month and up 23.4 percent year on year.
 
Meanwhile, in the January-September period of 2011, Japan's scrap exports amounted to 3.76 million metric tons, declining by 23 percent year on year.
 
In the first nine months of the year, Japanese scrap exports to China totaled 1.7 million metric tons, while exports to South Korea amounted to 1.98 million metric tons, decreasing by 15.6 percent and down 21.87 percent respectively, both compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
