Japan’s coking coal imports down 12.6 percent in April

According to statistics released by Japan's Ministry of Finance, Japan's coking coal imports totaled 5.1 million metric tons in April this year, falling by 6.2 percent month on month and down 12.6 percent compared to April 2011.

In the first four months of 2012, Japan's coking coal imports amounted to 22.7 million metric tons, decreasing by 5.7 percent year on year.

In April this year, Japan's coking coal imports from Australia fell by 12.8 percent compared to the same month last year to 2.45 million metric tons, while Indonesia exported 1.08 million mt of coking coal to Japan in April this year, falling 18.8 percent year on year. Meanwhile, Japan imported coking coal from Mozambique for the first time in April, totalling 54,223 mt.
