Japanese crude steel output up 4.3 percent in May from April

In May this year, Japanese crude steel production was up 4.3 percent compared to the previous month and rose 1.8 percent compared to May last year, totaling 9.09 million mt, according to the data released by the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF).

Meanwhile, in May of the current year Japan's pig iron production totaled 6.80 million metric tons, rising by 7.5 percent compared to the previous month and increasing by 1.6 percent year on year.

In the January-May period of this year, the country's pig iron output stood at 32.88 million metric tons, down 0.1 percent, while its crude steel production came to 44.21 million metric tons, rising 0.7 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
