Italian crude steel production increases in May

After six months during which year-on-year decreases were recorded, Italian producers' crude steel output increased by 1.1 percent year on year in May this year to 2.215 million mt, as per the latest report issued by the Italian steel association Federacciai.

In the first five months of 2019, Italian crude steel production amounted to 10.47 million mt, down two percent year on year. However, this output was higher compared to the 10.27 million mt recorded in the same period of 2017 and also exceeded the 10.11 million mt recorded in the January-May period of 2016.

Finally, in the four months of 2019, Italy's long steel output amounted to 4.23 million metric tons, decreasing by 1.7 percent year on year. In the same period, Italian flat steel output totaled 3.81 million metric tons, increasing by 0.8 percent year on year.
