After increasing slightly on year-on-year basis in May and decreasing in June, Italian producers' crude steel output declined by eight percent year on year in July this year to 1.984 million mt, as per the latest report issued by the Italian steel association Federacciai. This year-on-year decrease is the highest since September 2017 and is due to a strong decrease of flat steel production (9.4 percent lower in July, to 892,000 mt).
In the first seven months of 2019, Italian crude steel production amounted to 14.553 million mt, down 2.8 percent year on year.
Also in the January-July period, Italy's long steel output amounted to 7.633 million mt, decreasing by 0.2 percent year on year. In the same period, Italian flat steel output totaled 6.846 million metric tons, increasing by 1.1 percent year on year.
