Italian producers' crude steel output declined by 5.8 percent year on year in April this year to 1.95 million mt, as per the latest report issued by the Italian steel association Federacciai. The decrease can be attributed in part to long holidays in Italy, during which Italian mills implemented production stoppages and maintenance works.

In the January-April period of the current year, Italian crude steel production was 8.242 million mt, down 2.9 percent year on year. However, this was higher compared to the 8.164 million mt recorded in the same period of 2017 and also higher compared to the 7.906 million mt recorded in the same period of 2016.
