Italian crude steel production down 3.6 percent in January

After closing 2018 with an increase of 1.7 percent compared to 2017 despite year-on-year decreases both in November and December of last year, Italian producers' crude steel output decreased by 3.6 percent year on year in January this year to 1.959 million mt, as per the latest report by the Italian steel association Federacciai.

However, January's output volume is higher compared to the 1.917 million mt recorded in January 2017, the 1.818 million mt recorded in January 2016, and the 1.903 million mt registered in January 2015.

Meanwhile, in 2018 Italy's long steel output amounted to 12.399 million metric tons, increasing by 4.0 percent year on year. In the same period, Italian flat steel output totaled 11.106 million metric tons, decreasing by 2 percent year on year.
