Iran’s local steel demand on the rise

Iranian steel mills aim to expand their production in order to meet the rising demand. The Iranian government expects domestic demand to increase 50 percent from 2006 to 2010. Thus, Iranian mills started expansion plans to meet the total demand of 29.1 million tons by 2010. Iranian private mills' production is now around 2.7 million tons. Four new private mills will become operational and are expected to add an annual output of 2.2 million tons.
