India’s steel imports rise by 13% in May, exports down 38%

India’s steel imports have been provisionally estimated at 0.55 million mt in May this year, up 13 percent year on year, according to data sourced from the Joint Plant Committee (JPC) under the ministry of steel on Monday, June 10.

India’s steel exports during the month have been estimated at 0.43 million mt, a decline of 38 percent year on year, the data showed.

Total steel imports during the April-May period of 2024 came to 1.14 million mt, a rise of 20 percent, while exports amounted to 0.94 million mt, a decline of 40 percent, both year on year.
