India’s NMDC Limited secures environmental approval for iron ore mine expansion

Indian state-run miner NMDC Limited has secured approvals from the central ministry of environment, forests and climate change (MoEFCC) to increase the capacity of its Kumarswamy iron ore mine in the southern state of Karnataka to 10 million mt per year from 7 million mt per year at present, a company statement said on Thursday, September 21.

Earlier, the company had announced that it would spend an estimated $108 million to expand the capacity of the Kumaraswamy mine.

In 2022-23, NMDC Limited has achieved aggregate iron ore production of 40.8 million mt, up three percent year on year.
