India’s Lloyds Metal and Energy Limited (LMEL) has commissioned its second four million mt per year capacity iron ore pellet plant at Konsari in the western state of Maharashtra, the company said in a regulatory filing on Monday, May 4.
The company said that, with the commissioning of the second pellet plant, its total pellet making capacity at Konsari now stands at eight million mt per year. The first plant is already operating at full utilisation, which should support a smoother ramp-up of the new unit, it said.
The Konsari facility is closely linked to the company’s captive iron ore mines at Surjagarh. Raw material is transported through an 85-kilometer slurry pipeline commissioned in June 2025, allowing for a steady and cost-efficient supply chain.
This facility also enables the production of low-alumina pellets, which typically command better pricing in both domestic and export markets, LMEL said.
LMEL is engaged in iron ore mining, direct reduced iron (DRI) production and power generation, operating three verticals of sponge iron, mining and power generation in Maharashtra.
