India’s ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel Limited (AMNS) has commenced production from its new production line at its Hazira mill in Gujarat, for the production of advanced high strength steel (AHSS) to meet demand from the automotive industry, a company statement said on Monday, May 4.

The company stated that the new line will produce high quality, cold rolled base steel, which will be used to manufacture patented steel solutions from parent companies ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel.

The two million mt capacity advanced pickling line and tandem cold mill has been set up as part of AMNS’ $6.31 billion ongoing expansion project at its Hazira mill, the company said.

It said that the line will support domestic production of high-grade automotive steel and reduce reliance on imports. The facility is designed to manufacture steel with strength levels of up to 1,180 MPa, aligned with safety and light-weighting standards.
