Indian government unlikely to change duty structure

As previously reported by SteelOrbis, Indian steel producers lobbied the government to revert to the former rate of 40% lest the lower duty encourage CIS countries to resume the dumping of products on the Indian market. However, the government's recent announcement that an increase in the duty rate in the forthcoming budget was unlikely disappointed the steelmakers. The government indicated that it did not want to make any changes to the duty structure since the rate had already been adjusted more than once in the past year.
