India’s Ministry of Steel has proposed increasing the effective import duty on some steel products to 15 percent from current rates ranging from 5 percent to 12.5 percent, in order to support the rupee, according to Reuters.

The proposal aims to cut imports to stop the outflow of dollars, which has caused the rupee to decline to record lows.

The proposal is to be discussed at India's Ministry of Trade.
