Gulf port to take over former naval station site

The Port of Corpus Christi Authority announced that it will officially take over the US Naval Station Ingleside on Friday, April 30, 2010.  The acquisition will provide the port with 1,000 waterfront acres of potential energy or maritime development to offer to investors. 

Texas A&M University has been granted an agreement to serve as the master developer for the site, which juts into the Corpus Christi Ship Channel and already includes 576 acres full of warehouses, offices, barracks and other facilities.

Additionally, the port is proceeding with plans to build a multi-purpose dock and terminal on its nearby 1,000-acre La Quinta site.  The multi-purpose facility will be able to handle diverse cargo such as containers, wind turbines and steel pipe.

The port aims to complete the design and solicit bids for the first phase of construction by the end of this year.
