According to the data released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), global direct reduced iron (DRI) production in the 14 countries accounting for approximately 87 percent of total world DRI production in 2013 amounted to 6.34 million metric tons in December last year, increasing by 7.2 percent year on year and rising by 0.5 percent month on month.
Meanwhile, world DRI output came to 72.77 million metric tons in 2017, increasing by 9.2 percent compared to 2016.
The worldsteel data show that India was the largest DRI producer among the countries surveyed in 2017. India’s DRI output amounted to 25.86 million metric tons in the given month. India was followed by Iran, Mexico and Saudi Arabia in November, with outputs of 20.5 million mt, 6 million mt and 4.8 million mt respectively.
