According to the data released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), global direct reduced iron (DRI) production in the 12 countries accounting for approximately 85 percent of total world DRI production in 2016 amounted to 6.96 million metric tons in March, increasing by 15 percent year on year and rising by eight percent month on month.
Meanwhile, world DRI output came to 20.51 million metric tons in the first quarter of this year, increasing by 15.7 percent compared to the same period of last year.
The worldsteel data show that India was the largest DRI producer among the countries surveyed in the January-March period of this year. India’s DRI output amounted to 7.51 million metric tons in the given period. India was followed by Iran, Mexico and Egypt, with outputs of 6.16 million mt, 1.51 million mt, and 1.45 million mt respectively.
