German crude steel output down 1.4 percent in May

In May this year, Germany's crude steel output decreased by 1.1 percent month on month to 3.8 million metric tons, falling by 1.4 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, according to the information provided by the German steel federation Wirtschaftsvereinigung Stahl (WV Stahl). In the first five months of this year, crude steel production in Germany increased by 2.3 percent year on year to 18.62 million mt.
 
Meanwhile, in April Germany's total hot rolled steel product output amounted to 3.26 million metric tons, decreasing by 0.3 percent year on year, including 2.15 million metric tons of flat steel products - up one percent year on year, and 1.11 million metric tons of long steel products - decreasing by 2.8 percent year on year.
 
In the January-April period of this year, the country's hot rolled steel output rose 3.6 percent to 12.77 million mt, consisting of 8.38 million metric tons of flat steel products - up four percent year on year, and 4.39 million metric tons of long steel products - rising by three percent year on year.
