German crude steel output decreases 5.6 percent in Q1

In March this year, Germany’s crude steel output decreased by 10.4 percent year on year to 3.29 million metric tons, according to the information provided by the German steel federation Wirtschaftsvereinigung Stahl (WV Stahl). In the January-March period, crude steel production in Germany declined by 5.6 percent year on year to 9.86 million mt, reflecting the impact of the coronavirus.

Germany’s pig iron output amounted to 2.10 million mt in March, down 7.4 percent, and decreased by 6.6 percent to 6.27 million mt in the January-March period, both year on year.

The country’s hot rolled steel output decreased by 4.5 percent to 3.02 million mt in March, while declining by 1.8 percent to 8.74 million mt in the first three months, both compared to the respective periods of the previous year.
