The Brazilian steel producer Gerdau restarted its Maracanaú plant, located in the northeastern state of Ceará.

In 2024, the plant suspended operations to upgrade its steel production facilities, with an estimated investment of $40 million allocated to enhancing environmental standards and operational efficiency.

The production will focus on billets up to 12 meters long, which will also supply Gerdau’s Caucaia plant in Ceará for making long products, primarily for the domestic market.

Prior to the upgrade, the Maracanaú plant was only capable of producing billets with a maximum length of 6 meters.
