FIFA World Cup 2018 expected to up steel demand in Russia by 2.5-3 million mt

The Russian steel producing and mining company Evraz Group estimates at 2.5-3 million mt the amount of steel products required for the construction of infrastructure for the FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia.
 
In particular, steel products will be required for the construction of 13 new stadiums and for the reconstruction of three existing stadiums, as well as for the construction of hotels and infrastructure.
 
Russia's investments in preparation for the World Cup 2018 will amount to $50 billion, including $3.82 billion for the construction of stadiums and $11 billion for infrastructure projects. As one of the leading Russian producers of construction steel, Evraz will be one of the main suppliers for these projects.
 
Other important construction projects in Russia are for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi (for which Evraz is to ship about eight percent of it construction steel products sales in Russia), the Akademgorodok (Academic City) in Yekaterinburg, the space center in Russia's Far East and the Moscow-St. Petersburg high-speed railway.
 
As SteelOrbis previously reported, in 2010 Evraz produced about 4.94 million mt of construction steel products - up 15.3 percent year on year, of which 3.82 million mt were produced in Russia - up 11 percent compared to 2009.
