Chinese domestic steel section prices have softened slightly during the past seven days.
As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have also indicated small decreases during the past week. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 mm x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 3,020/mt ($443/mt), the price of 165 mm x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 3,040/mt ($446/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 3,120/mt ($458/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.
Mainstream ex-China H-beam section steel offer prices from the ports of Shanghai or Tianjin stand at $510-545/mt FOB as of today, Monday, June 8, softening as compared to June 1.
Overall trading activity in the Chinese steel section market has slackened somewhat over the past week and is currently considered to be weak amid sluggish demand due to the off-season, while prices have also softened due to the influence of lower billet prices. As for the week ahead, it is believed that local steel section prices may indicate further small declines.
