Czech-based Evraz Vitkovice Steel, a subsidiary of Russian vertically-integrated steelmaking and mining company Evraz, has temporarily halted steel production at its Ostrava steel plant due to weak demand and the company's efforts to optimize its raw materials inventory, according to media reports.

The company said that the duration of the production halt depends on various factor that are being considered by the management. The rolling plant at the facilities remains open.

Evraz Vitkovice produces rolled steel products for the automotive, shipbuilding and construction industries. In 2011, it supplied about 760,000 mt of steel slabs and 824,000 mt of rolled products.
