EVRAZ to idle seamless pipe operations in Colorado

EVRAZ announced it will indefinitely idle its seamless pipe unit at its Pueblo, Colorado steel mill, affecting about 70 employees. The mill began scaling back operations last year, temporarily laying off 200 workers, although some of those jobs were restored months later, according to news reports.

“We have made adjustments to our crewing levels at the seamless mill over the past year in response to production demand due to the downturn in the oil sector. In line with current demand levels, we are temporarily idling the seamless mill, which impacts approximately 70 employees,” the company said in a statement to local news.

The decline in demand was also blamed on “the influx of unfairly traded and subsidized steel imports,” the company said.
