Evraz announces 2006 production results
The Russian steelmaker and iron ore producer Evraz Group has announced its 2006 production results. According to the company statement, Evraz registered an 11.4 percent increase in its pig iron output, a 16.3 percent raise in its crude steel output and a 19.6 percent increase in its finished steel products output year on year in 2006. The respective figures in metric tons were 12.8 million, 16.1 million, and 14.5 million. As for the company's mining division, during the period in question, Evraz produced 2.5 million metric tons of iron ore concentrate – down 6.8 percent, 8.5 million metric tons of agglomerate – down 2.7 percent, and 5.9 million metric tons of pellets – up 14.3 percent compared to 2005. In addition, in 2006 the company mined 743,000 metric tons of coking coal and 99,000 metric tons of steam coal, showing an increase of 38.1 percent and 96.9 percent respectively compared to the results of 2005.
