Euro area industrial output up 0.2 percent in October from September

In October this year, seasonally-adjusted industrial production increased by 0.2 percent both in the euro area and in the EU-28, as compared with September. Industrial production in September had declined by 0.6 percent in the euro area and by 0.4 percent in the EU-28, on month-on-month basis. In October this year compared with October 2017, industrial production rose by 1.2 percent in the euro area and was up by 1.3 percent in the EU-28. These figures are released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Union.

As compared to September, in October this year the production of capital goods increased by one percent in the euro area and by 0.8 percent in the EU-28, while the production of non-durable consumer goods remained unchanged in the euro area and grew by 0.3 percent in the EU-28. In October this year, the production of energy was down by 1.7 percent in the euro area and decreased by 1.4 percent in the EU-28, and the production of durable goods advanced by 0.4 percent in the euro area and by 0.6 percent in the EU-28, all month on month. Meanwhile, the production of intermediate goods moved up by 0.2 percent in the euro area and by 0.3 percent in the EU-28, month on month.

Among the member states, in October the highest month-on-month increases were registered in Lithuania (7.4%), Slovenia (2.5%), and Hungary and Sweden (both 2.1%) and the highest decreases in Finland (2.6%), Greece (1.5%) Latvia (1.2%) and the Czech Republic (1.1%).

As compared to the same month of 2017, in October 2018 production of energy decreased by 3.1 percent in the euro area and declined by 1.7 percent in the EU-28. In the same month, production of intermediate goods fell by 0.4 percent in the euro area and increased by 0.1 percent in the EU-28, and production of capital goods moved up by 3.7 percent in the euro area and by 3.3 percent in the EU-28, all year on year. In October this year, production of non-durable consumer goods rose by 1.2 percent in the euro area and by 1.5 percent in the EU-28 and production of durable consumer goods remained stable in the euro area and increased by 1.2 percent in the EU-28, all year-on-year basis.

Among the member states for which data are available, in October the largest year-on-year increases were registered in Lithuania (9.2%), Ireland (6.1%) and Poland (5.0%), while decreases were observed in Croatia (2.4%), Latvia (1.9%) and Greece (1.0%).
