Dillinger Hütte starts producing slabs of up to 500 mm thick

Germany-based plantmaker SMS Group has announced that German plate producer Dillinger Hütte has started production at its new two-strand vertical slab caster CC6 supplied by SMS Group. With an investment volume totaling approximately €400 million, the new slab caster casts slabs with thicknesses of of up to 500 millimeters and widths of up to 2,200 millimeters for premium heavy plate production.

According to SMS Group’s statement, the continuous slab caster CC5 of Dillinger Hütte, which was also supplied by SMS in 1998 and was revamped in 2010, became the then world record holder producing slabs with thicknesses of up to 450 millimeters and that record has now been broken by continuous caster CC6 as it can produce slabs up to 500 millimeters.
