Italy-based plantmaker Danieli has announced that it has signed an agreement with Brazilian flat steel producer Usinas Siderúrgicas de Minas Gerais S.A (Usiminas) to replace the latter’s No.4 converter at the Ipatinga facility in Minas Gerais.

According to Danieli, this will be the seventh converter upgrade project signed with Usiminas. Danieli stated that the converter vessel will be built by Usiminas Mecânica, a subsidiary of Usiminas, and that Danieli will provide the design, supply of materials and supervision.

The new converter is expected to start operation in early 2020.
