Brazil steelmaker Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (CSN) said this week its hub port in the Pecem area, in the state of Ceara, is “advancing.”

According to a media report, the company’s port director, Pedro Brito, said the company is about to initiate an environmental analysis as well as an initial draft of the BRL 800 million project, which is expected to be completed in 2018.

The hub port will be built in a 100 hectares area in the Pecem port complex, in the state of Ceara, and will have the capacity to receive large ships, facilitating the redistribution of cargos to smaller shipments.

The hub port will provide a terminal for the transportation of cargos that will arrive from the Transnordestina railway, which is also expected to be completed by 2018.

CSN’s hub port will be used to export agricultural products and iron ore. Brito said the company expects to start-up the initial works in the hub port in the second half of 2016.
