Colombian steelmaker Aceruas de Colombia (Acesco) plans to produce about 220,000 mt of steel by year-end, a media report by Portafolio said. The volume is similar to what the company produced last year.
The company’s CEO, Felipe Gonzalez, said the company’s steel exports have been heavily affected by the US Section 232 tariffs. Gonzalez said Acesco’s steel exports grew about 60 to 70 percent in 2017, year-on-year.
“Our steel exports to the US disappeared. In the past few months, exports fell to almost zero,” he said.
Gonzalez said most of Acesco sales, about 80 percent, are aimed at the local civil construction sector.
