Colombian iron and steel exports down seven percent in January-May

In the first five months of the current year, Colombia exported 54,172 mt of ferronickel, up 3.7 percent, with a value of $124.9 million, decreasing by 39.8 percent, both year on year, as announced by the Colombian National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE). In May this year, the country's ferronickel exports amounted to 12,989 mt, rising by 56.1 percent, while the revenue from these exports was $31.07 million, up seven percent, both compared to May last year.
 
In the January-May period of this year, Colombia's iron and steel export volume totaled 72,728 mt, down seven percent, with a value of $148.7 million, declining by 39.4 percent, both on year-on-year basis. In May this year, Colombian iron and steel exports amounted to 17,835 mt, increasing by 72 percent, and were worth $36.95 million, up 14.2 percent, both compared to the same month of 2015.
