Colombian iron and steel export value up 44.5% in Aug over July

Production in the Colombian manufacturing industry decreased by 1.9 percent in August this year compared to the same month of 2011, as announced by the Colombian National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE).

In the month in question, Colombia's basic iron and steel production increased by 6.8 percent on year-on-year basis, while in the first eight months of the current year, Colombia's basic iron and steel production increased by 19.9 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

In August this year, Colombia's iron and steel exports value rose by 14.8 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and up 44.5 percent compared to July, coming to $109.4 million, while the country's ferronickel export value increased 6.8 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and was up 44 percent month on month, to $77.9 million. In the first eight months of this year, Colombia's ferronickel export value rose by 20 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching $606.7 million.
