In May this year, coal exports from Australian ports Hay Point, Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal (DBCT), Abbot Point and Gladstone located in the state of Queensland rose by 6.0 percent year on year and by 6.5 percent month on month to 19 million mt, according to data released by North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation and Gladstone Ports Corporation.
In particular, coal exports from the Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal (DBCT) in the given month totaled 5.64 million mt, up 12.8 percent year on year. Meanwhile, in June shipments from Hay Point increased by 4.1 percent year on year to 4.22 million mt, while shipments from Abbot Point amounted to 2.69 million mt, down 0.4 percent year on year. In addition, exports of coal from Gladstone Port increased by 4.6 percent compared to the same month of 2022 to 6.45 million mt in May.
In June, supplies to Japan accounted for 32.7 percent of the total exports, while China, India and South Korea accounted for 21.3 percent, 19.6 percent and 13.8 percent, respectively.
In the meantime, total coal shipments from the ports in question in the January-June period of the current year amounted to 97.32 million mt, SteelOrbis has learned.
