Coal exports from Port Waratah Coal Services (PWCS) terminals based at Port of Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia, totaled 8.85 million mt in April this year, increasing by 3.7 percent compared to March, according to the company's announcement. Ten percent of the total coal handled at the terminals in April was coking coal.
According to the released information, Japan was the largest export destination for coal shipments from PWCS in April, with shipments to Japan accounting for 51.1 percent of total shipments, while coal exports to China made up 16.9 percent of the total.
PWCS accounts for one third of Australia's exports of coal, which is the country's second most important export commodity in terms of value.
