China’s steel production figures for December

On January 22, China's State Bureau of Statistics released the country's steel production figures for December 2009. The details are as follows:

China's pig iron production in December totaled 44.72 million mt, up 24.6 percent year on year. At the same time, total pig iron production in the January-December period reached 544 million mt, up 15.9 percent compared to the previous year.

In December China's crude steel production stood at 47.66 million mt, up 26.6 percent year on year. Meanwhile, domestic crude steel production for 2009 reached 568 million mt, up 13.5 percent year on year.

In the month of December, China's finished steel production came to 64.64 million mt, up 31.4 percent year on year. On the other hand, national finished steel production from January to December inclusive reached 692 million mt, up 18.5 percent year on year.

Average daily production during the month in question reached 1.537 million mt, down by 38,000 mt month on month.
