China’s steel exports up 9.3 percent in January-April

In the January-April period of the current year, China’s apparent crude steel consumption declined by 3.8 percent to 227 million mt, while the country’s crude steel output decreased by 2.3 percent to 261 million mt, both year on year, according to the China report from the World Steel Association (worldsteel). 
 
In the given period, China’s steel product imports decreased by 4.6 percent year on year to 4.23 million mt, and its steel exports showed an increase of 9.3 percent to 32.7 million mt, while its net steel exports accounted for 13 percent of its apparent crude steel output in the same period. 
 
Meanwhile, in the first four months this year, China’s iron ore imports increased by 6.1 percent year on year to 325 million mt. In the January-April period, the country’s iron ore output amounted to 365 million mt, down 2.5 percent year on year.
