In the January-May period this year, China’s iron ore production amounted to 391.352 million mt, increasing by 6.5 percent year on year, according to China’s National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

In May alone, China’s iron ore production totaled 77.6 million mt, decreasing by 2.9 percent year on year, while increasing by 3.33 percent month on month.

Import iron ore prices had moved up first in May, while starting to edge down later in the month amid steelmakers’ production restrictions in some regions of the country. However, import iron ore prices have indicated a rebounding trend since late May amid increasing finished steel prices and rising ferrous metal futures prices.
