China's crude steel output in June this year reached 53.77 million mt, up nine percent year on year but down 4.2 percent month on month, while the average daily crude steel output for the month in question dropped down slightly to 1.79 million mt, according to China's National Bureau of Statistics.
Small Chinese steel mills curbed production in June in response to falling prices and weakening demand, with the big steel mills as usual not taking the lead in cutting output.
Meanwhile, China's total crude steel output for the first half of this year rose by 21.1 percent to 323 million mt, the data from the National Bureau of Statistics indicated.
In June, China produced 49.77 million mt of pig iron and 71.44 million mt of finished steel, up by 4.8 percent and 15.9 percent year on year respectively.
During the first six months of the year, China produced 303.79 million mt of pig iron, up 17 percent year on year, and 398.68 million mt of finished steel, up 26.1 percent year on year.
