China's completed shipbuilding output rises six percent in Jan-May

In the January-May period of the current year, China's total completed shipbuilding output amounted to 25.07 million dwt, up six percent year to year, with 84.7 percent of this volume destined for export - as announced by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

Meanwhile, new ship orders booked in the given period in China totaled 18.11 million dwt, down 7.8 percent year to year, with 73.2 percent destined for export. As of the end of May, current ship orders in China totaled 18,415 million dwt, down six percent compared to the end of 2010, with 85.3 percent of this volume due to be exported.
