Re-elected as chairman at the Ordinary General Assembly of the Istanbul Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metals Exporters’ Association (IDDMIB), Çetin Tecdelioğlu has stated that in his new term the association will follow a roadmap focused on increasing value-added exports, digitalization, and sustainability.

Evaluating the previous term, Mr. Tecdelioğlu stated that an intensive work program had been carried out over nearly four years, significantly increasing the visibility of the Turkish metal sector in international markets.

He noted that the main priority is export growth, adding that they are targeting an approximate 10 percent increase in exports for 2026 and expect a recovery in the second half of the year, despite challenges stemming from global developments.

Value-added production and digitalization at the forefront

Among the strategic priorities of the new term are the expansion of value-added production and the acceleration of digital transformation. Mr. Tecdelioğlu stated that sector-specific workshops will be organized to develop tailored strategies for each sub-sector, while also highlighting the importance of e-commerce and e-export.

He emphasized that companies’ digital capabilities will be enhanced to strengthen the global positioning of Turkey-origin products, noting that restoring competitiveness is a key objective.

Sustainability and compliance with carbon regulations

Sustainability and carbon-related regulations are also among the top priorities of the new term.

Drawing attention to the transformation in the European market, Tecdelioğlu stressed the critical importance of preparing for new mechanisms such as carbon border regulations. He stated that the sector will act in cooperation with public authorities to take the necessary steps to maintain competitiveness.

Emphasis on domestic production and recycling

Tecdelioğlu also referred to the goals of reducing imports and supporting domestic production, emphasizing the importance of recycling. He noted that more efficient use of scrap resources aims to create added value within the country and is also critical for sustainable production.

Medium-term target: $20 billion in exports

Recalling that the IDDMIB’s current exports stand at approximately $14.5 billion, Tecdelioğlu announced a medium-term target of $20 billion. He stated that this target will be achieved through the right strategies and cooperation with sector stakeholders, aiming to build a stronger and more sustainable export structure.
