Canadian rig counts soar while US counts continue to plunge

Baker Hughes has reported that for the week ending January 15, the US rotary rig count experienced a 14-rig decline, following a 34-rig decline the week before. This brings the current US rotary rig count to 650. The number of rigs drilling for gas declined by 13 to 135, while the number of rigs drilling for oil declined by one to 515. The overall rig count is still down by 1,026 rigs, year-on-year.
 
Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count increased by 61 in the week ending January 15 to 227. The Canadian rig count is still down by 213 from 440 rigs during the same week a year ago.
