Canadian oil pipeline distance extends by 1.1 percent

According to Statistics Canada, there were 45,783 kilometers of oil pipelines operating in Canada last year, up marginally (+1.1 percent) from 2012. The majority of these were transmission lines (31,637 km), followed by gathering lines (12,040 km) and product lines (2,106 km). More than three-quarters of all pipelines (78.5 percent) were located in Alberta and Saskatchewan.

For the year, Canadian oil pipeline companies reported total operating revenues of $5.2 billion, up 1.2 percent from 2012, while total operating expenses rose 7.7 percent to $2.4 billion. As a result, total net income after taxes decreased 1.0 percent to $1.7 billion.
