Statistics Canada announced Monday that the seasonally adjusted annual rate of housing starts was 179,000 units in April-down from 184,700 units in March.

April's decline was primarily a result of fewer urban starts in April. Urban starts fell 1.9 percent to 160,100 units in April as urban multiple starts dropped 5.1 percent. On the other hand, urban single starts rose by 3.4 percent over the month.
