Canadian building permits dip sharply in April

Statistics Canada reported Monday that the value of building permits in Canada fell a dramatic 21.1 percent to $5.3 billion in April, after jumping 16.8 percent in March and rising 9.8 percent in February.

Both non-residential and residential building permits declined in April, but non-residential permits by far had the largest decrease, slumping 33.2 percent to $1.9 billion. Residential building permits were down 12.6 percent from March to $3.5 billion.
