The business confidence index (BCI) in Mexico increased 16.6 percent in July, year-over-year. It is the sixth consecutive annual increase and the biggest rise in the last 18 months, according to SteelOrbis' analysis of data from national statistics agency Inegi.
In August, the BCI index was 56.51 points, very close to 56.53 points in July, which was the maximum of 2017, which is the historical information from Inegi. August was 0.04 percent below the maximum.
The positive behavior was widespread in the four industries considered in the indicator. The confidence of businesses in the non-financial private services industry increased 32.4 percent, in construction it grew 8.7 percent, in businesses in the commerce sector it increased 5.0 percent and in manufacturing 3.3 percent, compared to August of last year.
According to Inegi, the BCI weighting system, the greatest percentage weight is given to "non-financial private services" with 46.0 percent, commerce contributes 23.5 percent, manufacturing contributes 21.2 percent, and construction contributes 23.5 percent. 9.3 percent.
