Brazilian plate exports decline in July

Brazil exported 17,400 mt of heavy plate in July, against 23,000 mt in June, according to customs data.

The exports in July were destined to South American countries (10,800 mt, of which 8,000 mt at $1,054/mt to Argentina) and Europe (6,600 mt at $813/mt), FOB conditions.

The exports to Argentina were mostly destined to the production of pipes for the additional stretches of the Nelson Kirshner pipeline, linking the gas fields of Vaca Muerta to the region of Buenos Aires.

The exporters were Gerdau (12,200 mt at $764/mt), Usiminas (5,100 mt $1,380/mt) and traders (100 mt at $1,118/mt), FOB conditions.

Meanwhile, Brazil imported 900 mt of heavy plate in July, against 1,300 mt in June.

The imports were from European countries (500 mt at $1,796/mt) and China (400 mt at $854/mt), also FOB conditions.
