Brazilian pig iron exports up 30.5 percent in H1, through shipments to China

In the first half of the current year, Brazilian pig iron exports increased by 30.5 percent year on year, to 1.619 million mt, with significant changes in the geographical structure, caused by COVID-19, in particular. The share of the US in the total value of Brazilian pig iron exports in the January-June period this year decreased to 26.6 percent from 44 percent at the same period last year. In the meantime, while during the first six months of the previous year, China was not among importers of Brazilian pig iron, in the first half of this year, it accounted for 38.74 percent of the total export value.

In June alone, Brazilian pig iron exports amounted to 365,051 mt, rising by 2.8 fold month on month.
