Brazilian crude steel output in October rose 3.5 percent, year-on-year, to 3.2 million mt, according to the nation’s steel association, IABr.
Domestic steel sales in October improved 8.4 percent, year-on-year, to 1.6 million mt. Apparent steel consumption in October totaled 1.7 million mt, 3.7 percent up, year-on-year.
Brazilian imports of steel products in October dropped 32.8 percent, year-on-year, in terms of volume to 125,000 mt, and declined 4.3 percent, year-on-year, in terms of value to $178 million. IABr did not release Brazil’s steel export figures due to a change in Brazil’s government foreign trade system.
As for the accumulated period of January to October, Brazilian crude steel output reached 29.2 million mt, 2.6 percent up, year-on-year. Domestic steel sales in the ten-month period was 15.4 million mt, 9.5 percent up, year-on-year, while apparent steel consumption in the same period reached 17.3 million mt, 8.2 percent up, year-on-year.
Brazilian steel imports in the January-October period was 2.1 million mt, 2.9 percent up, year-on-year, in terms of volume.
