Turkey's leading pipemaker Borusan Mannesman has announced that it will cease to produce plastic pipes as of March 31, 2011, since plastic pipes have a very small share in its product mix with very low growth potential.

Commenting on the decision, Borusan said in a statement, "With the perspective to become a globally renowned leading pipe producer, Borusan will focus on its activities in areas where high value-added steel pipes are necessary, namely energy transfer lines, oil and gas drill holes, the automotive sector and the construction sector."
